Welton gained three more valuable league points with a clinical second half display and sharp finishing.

Welton’s starting line-up included striker Courtney Charles, who was making his debut having recently signed from Oldlands. It was a lively start from Welton, with Charles in the action straight away when he pounced on a through-ball which disected the Calne defence, only to see his effort saved by Calne keeper, Steve Allinson.

At the other end, William Boaker tore through the Welton defence, but fired his shot wide of the target. The hosts were then awarded a free-kick out on the right, and the delivery was met by former-Welton player, Aaron Seviour, whose first-time effort flew high and wide off the target.

Welton’s response was a quality run from midfield by Joe Battrick, who attacked the Calne goal only to be denied by a good save from Allinson. As half-time approached, Calne stepped up a gear, and a free kick on the edge of the Welton area saw Matt Hudson’s low strike fly through the Welton wall and go inches-wide of the target.

Welton then had Tom Smith to thank for denying Calne a half-time lead when he slid along the goal line to clear Seviour’s shot.

The second half began with Welton pressing. A long-throw from the left by Callum Elms was headed on by Joe Garland, and somehow the ball was scrambled away after an almighty melee in the box. Welton took the lead in the 55th minute when a ball from the right landed in the mix.

Mike Jones was first to the ball, but his effort struck the post. In the scramble that followed, the ball was eventually slotted home by Welton captain Joe Garland from close range.

Welton continued to press, and another long-throw from Elms landed at the feet of Charles, who turned his marker and fired in a quality strike to score on his debut to give Welton a two-goal cushion. This was followed shortly after by goal number three.

Good play from Aaron Cockerill saw him set up Dylan Hatt on a charge – the youngster mesmerised his marker before firing in a gem of a shot which flew in by the near post and secured Hatt his first ever goal for Welton.

Just before full-time, Welton got a fourth when Charles was found on the edge of the area. He held the ball up, turned and fired in a great strike that gave the keeper no chance.

Straight from the restart, Calne raced up the other end and substitute Max Wyatt fired a hopeful shot that took a big deflection off a Welton player and ended up in the back of the net.
