Next week will see another former Premier Division star come to Midsomer Norton as Welton Rovers Football Club host their 2019 ‘An Evening With…’ guest speaker dinner.

In recent years, the club has hosted successful events with Jan Molby, Lee Sharpe and Ray Parlour, and this year they will be bringing former Premier League winner, Chris Sutton, to town.

Chris was one of the Premier League’s defining strikers in the 1990s, playing for Norwich City and Chelsea, as well as forming one of English football’s most lethal strike partnerships with Alan Shearer at Blackburn Rovers. He became a Premier League winner as part of the Kenny Dalglish-managed Rovers side that pipped Manchester United to the title on the season’s final day in 1995.

The one-time most expensive player in English football seemed to form dazzling strike partnerships wherever he went, including linking up with Henrik Larsson at Celtic, where he would win three Scottish League Titles, score Old Firm goals and play against a Jose Mourinho side in the 2003 UEFA Cup Final.

Since retirement, Sutton has gone on to become one of the nation’s most recognisable sports pundits on BT Sport and BBC Radio 5 Live, often praised for his blunt and honest appraisal of football on and off the field.

On Friday, 21st June at West Clewes, Chris will be joined by comedian, and Everton Football Club matchday emcee, Jamie Sutherland, for what promises to be an incredibly entertaining evening.

Welton Rovers’ Director, Ashley Bird, said: “These events are a lot of fun to host and to attend. It’s not very often Midsomer Norton gets visited by a former England international, and we’re really looking forward to putting on this event for local football fans!”
