TIMSBURY ATHLETIC 1 SOMERTON 1
For the second week running, a goal in the final minute of the game led to a drawn match. In this case, it was Timsbury’s turn to benefit from the good fortune in this Ulhsport Somerset County Division One fixture.
As reflected by the League table, these were two evenly-matched teams, with neither looking like they would dominate. The first real chance came after fifteen minutes, when a cross from the right by Heatley was dummied by Cook, leaving Lutwama with a clear shot on goal which he blazed wide.
Somerton then took the lead when a tackle by Taylor rebounded to Meadon on the edge of the box, which he hit low to keeper, Phillip’s right-hand side, but was unable to keep out. At the other end, Cook found Lutwama to run on goal, but the advancing Smith in the Somerton goal did well to smother the shot.
Timsbury then wasted the best chance of the half when a Midgeley interception left them three against one bearing down on the Somerton goal, but it somehow came to nothing, as Lutwama’s shot from Cook’s pass failed to test the keeper.
Meadon tried his luck with a volley from 25 yards but it was well-wide. A Nix cross found Lutwama in the box who chested it down to Hancock, but his shot flew high over the bar.
Timsbury continued to press in the second half without looking like scoring. George and Tom Westlake in the Somerton defence were more than a match for the normally prolific partnership of Cook and Lutwama, giving them a hard time all afternoon.
Somerton might have increased their lead when a shot from Meadon evaded Phillips, only for Ben Hancock to clear the ball off the line.
Craze found Hancock in the box, but his shot was deflected for a corner. Then, a Heatley free-kick from the edge of the box was easily saved by Smith.
Despite Timsbury now having most of the possession, the visitors remained very difficult to break down. With time running out, Cook looked like he had finally equalised, when his header was flicked over Smith in the Somerton goal, only for him to somehow recover and claw the ball away before it crossed the line.
There was still time for one last Timsbury attack. Heatley was released on the right, and his cross found Lutwama unmarked at the far post to head home to level the score and give the home side a point that, on reflection, was probably a fair result.
