Dominic Eatherden has been reappointed Manager of Somerset County League Division One East side, Timsbury Athletic, for the fourth successive season.
The decision was ratified at the club’s AGM, which was held in the Cricket Clubroom. His assistant will again be Paul Tarmas. Kevin Abbott will continue at the helm of the Mid-Somerset League Reserve team assisted by Steve Hoddinott.
In advance of the official business, Barry Dix was offered Life Membership of the club by Chairman, Rob Veater, in recognition of many years of outstanding service in a variety of capacities. Barry said he was honoured and happy to accept his nomination.
In his first report as Chairman, Veater said that from a first team point of view, it was a season easily forgotten. Bad weather had blighted football throughout the winter, but after a disappointing campaign, there had been a big improvement in the last ten games. He was pleased that the Reserve team had seen the development of a number of young players. He said that the 125th anniversary exhibition, organised by Martyn Sage, had highlighted the quality and history of the club. On the debit side, he appealed for an improvement in discipline. Finally, he thanked the Managers and their Assistants and the committee for all their efforts.
The club’s Under-16 side had enjoyed a good season completing a league and cup double and the Under-9s won their first trophy, but the Under-7s and Under-8s are looking for new managers next season and there was an appeal for more senior players to get involved in the coaching of the youngsters. The Football Club offered to sponsor delegates on coaching courses and to encourage them to take on teams.
There were reports given by each of the club managers and the youth coaches. Eatherden felt that the future was bright and said he was hoping to sign a number of new players. The club was looking to upgrade facilities, including the dugouts, perimeter fencing and changing rooms and the Conygre Trust was praised for its support.
