This weekend will see both Welton Rovers and Radstock Town host matches in the third annual Toolstation Western League Groundhop, with Saturday matches being held at West Clewes and Southfields.
Welton will be the first fixture on the bumper Saturday schedule, as they welcome Keynsham Town for a 10.45 a.m. kick-off in Midsomer Norton, and then Radstock Town face off against Oldland Abbotonians at Southfields at 1.30 p.m.
The Groundhop Weekend sees seven fixtures with staggered kick-off times, allowing ‘groundhoppers’ to take in multiple matches and visit more new grounds in a single trip to Somerset. The host clubs can expect a crowd of up to 250 spectators, significantly more than they are used to.
Welton Rovers’ Vice-Chair, Gareth Paisey is excited about the day’s prospects. He said: “It’ll be fantastic to see so many people inside West Clewes, and a brilliant opportunity for us to showcase what the club has to offer, both on and off the pitch.
“Clive Scott’s side is giving us plenty to cheer about so far this season, and our bar room and catering are among the best in the South West. This is a great chance to show those visiting that Welton Rovers’ current status does justice to our exceptional Western League pedigree.
“We’ll be serving breakfast at the club on Saturday morning, so you’ll still be able to have a lie-in and then head out to watch the game and get fed here!”
Though Keynsham Town and Oldland Abbotonians will make for tough opponents for the Coalfield sides, both Welton and Radstock are in good form themselves, only a few points from the league’s top positions, and both go into the coming weekend’s fixtures off the back of 3–0 victories.
Admission to all Groundhop fixtures is £6, with children entering for free.
