A goal mid-way through the second half from substitute, Neil Hulford, was enough to earn Timsbury Athletic a share of the spoils in their home game with Stockwood Green in the Somerset County League Division One East. It was a valuable point for the home side, but with games running out, wins are now becoming crucial if the village side is to climb out of the bottom two positions.

There was an uninspiring start to the match and it was twenty minutes before either side threatened, with Dan Salvage shooting wide for Stockwood after breaking clear.

Almost immediately Joe Parker responded at the other end, bringing the visitors’ keeper, Adam

Salvage, into action with a clean strike. The impressive Jake James then hit the underside of the Timsbury crossbar with a great effort before giving the Bristol side the lead after 32 minutes. He found himself clear of a static home defence and rounded keeper, Ben Paisey, before shooting home.

Efforts from Lee Millard for Stockwood and from Jimmy Hailston for Timsbury both went well wide, but Parker made a much better fist of a left foot shot which Salvage saved at the foot of the post. Both sides had free-kicks in dangerous positions just before the interval, but neither Jake Eade, for the visitors, or Ellis Hancock, for Timsbury, made the most of the opportunities.

The second half again opened slowly with Paisey comfortably saving a header from Dan Salvage and Millard shooting well wide.

Timsbury Manager, Dom Eatherden, then freshened up the side with a series of substitutions and it paid dividends in the 68th minute when Hulford headed home a Jack Nix corner.

At the other end, Paisey saved a header from Dan Toomey and a fine cross from James gave the same player another clear chance which he headed wide. A long shot from young Timsbury defender, Joe Hallett, just cleared the Stockwood bar and Hulford’s late opportunity for the home side saw him shoot wide.
