Fielding first in front of a large crowd who were enjoying the pleasant surroundings, Killy stuck to the task very well and limited a strong Portishead batting line-up to 235-7 in their forty overs.
Skipper, Darren Davis (2-37), Alex Gardiner (2-39), Harry Humphries (2-48) and Mark Batchelar (1-30) were all getting amongst the wickets.
A number of batsmen got started in reply, with veteran Ashley Davis scoring nineteen, but most pleasing was the performance of the younger element, who continue to improve week by week. Alex Gardiner (twenty), Ben Curtis (sixteen), Kieran Gray – with a best-ever twelve – and fifteen-year-old Charlotte Hazell, with a first-ever boundary, all contributed.
Despite falling short and being dismissed for 119, it was another very satisfying afternoon for the Kilmersdon club, who pride ourselves in bringing youngsters through. This coming weekend, we are at home to Carsons & Mangotsfield; 2 p.m. start.
