Before the featured match between Chilcompton Res and Westhill Sports in the Quarter-Final of the Dimmock Green KO Cup, the draw was made for the Semi-Final; Frome Collegians vs Coleford (a repeat of last year’s Final) and Pilton vs Chilcompton Res or Westhill Sports.
It was 0-0 at half-time, with both goalkeepers being responsible for the scoreline. Chilcompton started very brightly in the second half, and the defence looked tight.
The midfield was compact, and it was no surprise when they went in front from the penalty spot, then went further ahead on 63 minutes, when Joe Stoppard ran through the visitors’ defence to slip the ball under the goalkeeper and into the net to make it 2-0.
It all went wrong for the home team after the management made changes, bringing on subs that really struggled with the pace of the game. This gave Westhill just the impetus they needed – their quick front-runners causing havoc in the home defence.
On 75 minutes, the visitors scored from the penalty spot, then on 76 minutes, one of their forwards was left on his own on the far post, and hammered the ball into the net. Westhill progressed to the Semi-Finals on the 80th minute, making the score 3-2.
Pilton United scored sixteen against Victoria Sports, and are top of the Premier League. Peasedown Albion lost ground on the leaders, losing for the first time in the League at home to Purnell Sports, 1-0. Their goal came from the penalty spot by Antoniou. Bath Villa stay fourth, beating Westfield Res, 9-1.
In the First Division, High Littleton stay on top, just, by gaining a point at Clutton Res, drawing 1-1. Somer Valley secured their second win in the League this season, beating bottom team, Meadow Rangers, 7-1. Tom Howells was named Man of the Match. Timsbury Res move up to fourth, winning at home, 3-0, against Wells A, with Ash Curtis scoring all three goals.
Belrose lost some advantage at the top of the Second Division, dropping a point at home against Stoke, drawing 2-2. Saltford Res beat bottom team, Glastonbury Res, 3-2, and Coleford Res move up to fourth in the League, winning away at Weston Bath.
The Third Division leaders, Frome Collegians Res, had a good win at home against Chilcompton United, 8-1. Getting the goals were Bird (2), Campbell, Atkins (2), Brown, Handford and Griffiths.
Mendip Rangers keep up their good start to the season, beating Westfield A away, 7-0. Amongst the goals for them were Adam Rahn (3), Jack Clift (2), Ash Crowther and Charlie Jacks. Meanwhile, Chilcompton A secure their third win of the season, winning away at Evercreech Res, 4-2.
