After a great result two weeks ago when Frome Collegians won through in the Somerset Junior Cup, last week the Mid-Somerset boasted two of their teams through to the Semi-Finals of the Somerset Intermediate Cup.

Peasedown Albion travelled to Somerdale Rangers, who play on the superb surface at Fry’s, Keynsham. The visitors took the game to the home team right from the start; the three forwards of Hucker, Baker and Vine giving the home defence a torrid time.

It was all one-way in the first half, and it was no surprise when Scott Baker broke the deadlock, smashing the ball past the home goalkeeper. After the visitors squandered many further chances, Dan Hucker then made it 2-0.

As so often happens with teams, Peasedown being so much on-top took their foot off the pedal in the second half, allowing Somerdale to get back in the game. In one of the raids on the visitors’ goal, goalkeeper Ashton Tucker picked up an injury and had to be replaced.

The home team resorted to using some hard-man tactics, but that came really unstuck when one of their players lost his head completely, charging a Peasedown player to the floor and the game was stopped, resulting in a red card.

Scott Baker sealed the win, running away from the home defence, rounding the goalkeeper and tapping the ball in to the empty net for a 3-0 victory.

Weston Bath at home made it two teams through to the Semi-Finals, with a great win over Sydenham Rangers. The home team dominated the first half but only managed one goal, scored by Luke Fisher to lead at half time 1-0.

The visitors played better at the start of the second half, but a second goal for Weston scored by Ashton Muir deflated them and with an own goal saw the home side through to the Semi-Final, 3-0.

Weston are having a great season; being top of the Third Division without losing a game, and are eight points ahead of Stoke Rovers, who have three games in hand.

The performance of the day must go to Timsbury Res in the Paulton Hospital Cup. After going in front away to the Premier League champions, Coleford, they went down 3-2. The home side are through to the final at Paulton Rovers’ ground on Good Friday at 11 a.m.

In the Premier League, Westfield Res go up to Second with a good home win against Victoria Street, 4-3. Amongst the goals for the home team was Beau Baber (2), Jake Mitchell and Sam Millard. Wells A stay bottom of the league, losing away to Radstock A 5-1. Mells won their third game of the season with a hard fought 4-3 win away to Temple Cloud.

Top team in the First Division, Pilton, took a day off from league duty and travelled to Somer Valley in the Clark Cup, but had a disastrous afternoon, losing 7-4. Bottom team in the First Division, Belrose, had a good 3-1 win over Glastonbury Res in the Charity Cup.

Both games played in the First Division ended in 2-2 draws, Chew Magna Res vs Meadow and Clutton Res vs Chilcompton Res.

Evercreech close the gap on Timsbury Res in Division Two, beating Saltford Res 4-1 at home, and was the same scoreline as Westhill Res, beating Wessex Street – Josh Lines netting all four for the home team.

In the Third Division, Stoke keep the pressure on Weston with a hard-fought 2-1 win away to Chilcompton United. The young Timsbury A side pick up another useful point away to Farrington, drawing 2-2, and Pilton Res draw 2-2 with fourth-place Purnell Sports A.
