Timsbury Athletic produced another impressive all-round performance to put Castle Cary to the sword, in a 5-0 home win in the Somerset County League Division One East.
Still unbeaten on their own patch this season, Timsbury again showed a clinical finishing touch which has seen them amass 89 goals already in this campaign.
After a slow start, Timsbury took the lead after ten minutes. A speculative effort way out on the right from Jack Nix totally deceived Jaroslow Bochenek in the Castle Cary goal and sailed into the net.
Jem Lutwama then sent Rhys Cook clear, but he was foiled by Bochenek as he tried to go round the keeper. The home side increased their lead when an excellent build-up was finished off well by Cook.
Jack Scrivens, who had a relatively-untroubled afternoon in the home goal, denied visiting skipper Josh Owen with a neat save, while Lutwama found the net for Timsbury – only to have the effort ruled out as off-side.
Timsbury began the second half strongly, and after another Nix shot had been saved by Bochenek, Cook notched his 28th league goal of the season when he turned superbly to hammer home Jesse Bishop’s pass. Bishop himself was wide of the post with another effort, while a good strike from Oakley Page at the other end was just too high.
There was no let-up for the visitors, as the introduction of substitutes Lewis Blannin and Ebner Heatley kept up the pressure. Blannin was only denied by a crucial last-ditch tackle from Ross Barber, and twice Heatley came close after being supplied by Lutwama.
With six minutes left, Bishop added Timsbury’s fourth goal with a fine left-foot shot and a clever pass from Cook, which gave Blannin the chance to put the icing on the cake with the fifth goal shortly before the end.
