PAULTON Rovers kept in touch with the leaders in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League with a 2-0 away win over Newquay, both the goals coming in the opening ten minutes.

The tone of the first ten minutes were set in the opening two minutes when Kailan Gould played Kitan Jaiyeoba through on goal only to be denied by a good stop by the Newquay keeper. And it was only three minutes later when the breakthrough was made. Chris Peck pressed the Newquay defence into a mistake allowing Gould to snatch the ball away and lay it off to Dan McBeam who cut inside and struck from the edge of the box. T

he hosts were rocked and looked somewhat shaky at the back as Rovers continued to press. The second came quickly and again Gould was instrumental. He again stole the ball and hit a low cross to Jaiyeoba who made no mistake from six yards out.

A chance for Wayne Nderemani and a free kick that went just wide by Kyle Witt followed on the next fifteen minutes as Rovers continued to press forward. Gradually though, Newquay worked themselves back into the half and started to get a few chances of their own.

Their best chance came from a free kick but the effort went wide. As the half closed, Jaiyeoba broke free squared the ball to Kyle Witt who was tackled with perfect precision just as he pulled the trigger.

The second half had a slightly different feel as this time it was Newquay who came out quickest. The first ten to fifteen minutes saw them have the lions share of the possession but were unable to make a breakthrough.

Unfortunately, in the 87th minute, Kyle Witt was shown his marching orders after a tackle where he seemingly took the ball cleanly.
