Paulton Rovers Ladies 1 AEK Boco 2

Paulton Rovers’ Ladies’ side were beaten 2–1 by AEK Boco after a very closely fought FA Cup game against two well matched sides.

The hosts started brightly and Paulton winger, Eleri Webber, smashed the crossbar inside two minutes with a fantastic shot from the edge of the area.

AEK Boco started to look dangerous on the break and their speedy striker broke away twice only to be denied by Paulton keeper, Jones.

Martha Slocombe thought she had scored, but was denied by the linesman flag before top scorer, Alex Gwyther finally broke the deadlock on 35 minutes after a brilliant through ball by Immi Stocker.

The visitors came out strongly in the second half and equalised after ten minutes when a shot that came down off the crossbar was adjudged to have crossed the line by the linesman, despite the appeals by the home defence. This seemed to be a turning point as the visitors took control of the game and with Paulton needing to make changes due to injuries, the visitors grabbed the lead, following up from another big save by keeper Jones on 70 minutes but was unable to stop the striker regaining her feet to bundle the ball home.

The later stages saw the hosts change shape in an effort to equalise, but were unable to seriously test the Boco keeper.

Every Paulton player put in a tremendous amount of work, but ultimately it is AEK Boco who progress into the next round.

Paulton Rovers First team - After Saturday’s 2–0 win at Bideford, on Tuesday, 4th October, they were Away in Southern League Cup to Bristol Manor Farm.

Then they are Away again to Bristol Manor Farm on Saturday, 9th October in the FA Trophy, kick-off 3 pm. On Saturday, 16th October, they face Bristol Manor Farm yet again, this time at home in the Southern League Division 1 South, kick-off at 3 pm.

Three meetings in eleven days. We’ll be sick of the sight of each other!

The Western Floodlit Youth U-18 side lost 5–1 at home to Wells City last Thursday and they entertain Welton Rovers this Thursday, 7th October.

Next Wednesday, 13th October, they are Away to Oldland Abbotonians. Both games kick-off at 7.30 pm

First team are Home to Swindon Town on Sunday, 10th October, kick-off is at 2 pm.

The Ladies’ Reserves are Away at Banwell.
