Westfield A 2 Paulton Rovers Reserves 4
Returning to league action after a big win in the Cup, The Reserves took the short trip away to Westfield looking to close the gap at the top.
Rovers started well, attacking well down the wings through Tyler Lane and Josh Ayres, who between them created the first chances. The breakthrough came from a corner halfway through the first half, as the Westfield defence failed to clear the ball and it fell to Eric Boateng, who poked it home from just inside the box.
The second goal for Rovers came shortly after from a well-timed cross from Tyler Lane who found Josh Ayres at the back post who nodded the ball past Simon Chivers. Throughout the first half, Rovers looked strong at the back and played some good flowing football between themselves. HT 0–2
The second half got underway and Westfield upped their game and brought the pressure on to the Reserves. Paulton managed to deal with the long balls through Curtis Taylor and Will Smith. Paulton added a third through Jack Seymour’s stunning left foot shot, leaving Chivers with no chance.
Westfield went down the other end, earning themselves a penalty when Darren Whitfield clipped the heals of the striker inside the box. However, Westfield failed to capitalise on this when a tame shot went straight into the arms of Smith.
Paulton made several changes halfway through the half and changed formation which Westfield took advantage of and pulled a goal back. But in the 70th minute, up stepped Seymour once again who did what he managed to do earlier on in the half and lobbed the Westfield keeper in spectacular fashion. More changes followed for both teams and once again the home side managed to give themselves a consolation goal through a well taken free kick. Rovers managed to see the final minutes out and the game finished 2–4.
