Lymington Town 0 Paulton Rovers 1
A goal disallowed, twice had shots kicked off the line and several good shouts for pretty clear cut penalties but left it until added time for the only goal.
That came eight minutes into added time direct from a corner. On the right swung in left-footed by Ed Butcher with ball sailing low into the keepers near post. This gives managers Craig Loxton and John Durbin their first win since taking the reins at The First 4 Pools Stadium at Winterfield Road.
After a fairly lacklustre, weary exchange of play Paulton began to press.
Chris Peck’s fierce drive was parried by Lymo keeper Amad Skryzniarz then Ed Butcher’s corner engaged a move involving Will Hailston then Mike Ilea set up Dave O’Hare who shot narrowly wide.
The hosts responded, the big number nine Jamie Beasley saw his cross cleared before Jireh Oyebamiji had a shot blocked by Dan Dempsey.
As half time approached, Rover’s youngster Leo Eglin set up striker Joe Morgan whose half volley was held by the home keeper.
From the restart, Paulton dominated as a terrific goal bound volley from O’Hare was tipped over the bar by the Polish keeper. That was followed up as captain Neil Martin’s free kick was met by O’Hare who just missed the target. Butcher then hit a free kick which whistled across the goal mouth,
It took sixty-eight minutes for Lymington to have their first shot on target as Lewis Waterfield saw his effort comfortably held low down to his left by Rover’s keeper Aaron Sainsbury.
Martin running onto a Nick Hewlett pass seemed to be chopped down by Oyebamiji but the referee waved aside the appeals of Rovers players and management. On eighty-five minutes, Paulton had a goal disallowed as Hailston put the ball in the net but was ruled offside.
In added time, Butcher’s shot was pushed over the bar by an on-rushing home defender. The referee again dismissed penalty appeals and ruled a corner.
Taken left footed from the right by Butcher, his low cross somehow deceived the keeper whose eyes appeared to be drawn by the on rushing Paulton attackers. As a result, the bar ended up in the net to give Rovers a deserved victory.
Paulton Rovers man of the match was Dave O’Hare, who was involved at the heart of many manoeuvres.
This Saturday, the first team are at home to Westbury United, kick-off 3-00 p.m.The game is sponsored by new existing local company Eighty Nine Clothing. Tony Walsh
