Longwell Green Ladies 2 - 2 Paulton Rovers Ladies

Paulton Rovers Ladies secured a hard fought victory over a physical Longwell Green team in the Women’s FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.

Beth Knight opened the scoring after only eight minutes, converting her own penalty after a clumsy tackle on her inside the box. The hosts then enjoyed their best spell of the game and equalised on twenty five minutes with a well judged cross/shot found the net. The remainder of the half saw chances come and go at both ends of the pitch in an even but bruising encounter.

The second half started with Longwell Green grabbing the initiative with a penalty of their own after only a few minutes for an adjudged push in the box but Paulton immediately responded with the goal of the game by Eleri Webber after a slick passing move and Alex Gywther grabbing the final assist. Adella Clarke hit the crossbar in a great effort to get the winner and Paulton Rovers fitness saw them control the remainder

of the game as the hosts tired, but the visitors were unable to beat the impressive home keeper. Immi Stocker almost won it in the final minute but had a great shot finger tipped over the bar which meant penalties would be needed to find a winner.

After the first five spot kicks the teams were still tied at 4-4 and so sudden death was required. Paulton keeper Jones eventually saved the eighth Longwell Green penalty to secure a tense 6-5 win on penalties.

The team will now progress to the Preliminary Round on Sunday, 20th September when they travel to AEK Boco.
