PAULTON ROVERS U18s 8 CORSHAM TOWN U18s 2
Paulton welcomed Corsham Town to the Athletic Ground for their second meeting in a week.
The home side started the game pressing high up the field, and took an early lead fifteen minutes in through Blaine Lawrence.
This was soon followed by a second goal for Paulton, which was finished well by Ali Sen after the ball was slotted through from Lewis Bond-Kendall.
The game started to open up more, and the visitors managed to get a goal back, a well-taken header from a corner by Tom Swain.
However, this didn’t hold Paulton back. Lewis Harrison found himself on the end of another Bond-Kendall through-ball, and did well to take the ball around the keeper and finish from a tight angle.
Five minutes later, Harrison found himself getting his second goal of the game with another very well taken shot, finishing well from a tight angle after going past four Corsham defenders in the box.
After the interval, Rovers changed shape in an attempt to control the lead, and Corsham came out pressing high. This unsettled the home side for a little while, and the visitors found themselves creating more chances, but failing to really test the debutant Paulton keeper.
It was the home side who once again found the net first. Blaine scored his second of the game after some excellent build-up play from Jake Curtis.
Man of the Match, Lawrence, then completed his hat-trick after getting on the end of another excellent Bond-Kendall through-ball, smashing the ball into the net.
The visitors managed to pull another goal back five minutes later from Swain; this time it was from a goalkeeping error, again coming from another set-piece.
There was still time for two more goals from the home side before the end of the game.
The first came from Ali Sen, who twisted and turned his way through the box to slot the ball past the keeper, and the second came from Oakley Rawlings, who finished well to make the final score 8-2 to the home side.
A very promising performance from the young Paulton team, who will be hoping they can take their momentum into this week’s Cup Quarter Final game vs Yate Town; 7.30 p.m. kick-off at Paulton Rovers on Thursday, 8th November.
The team are then away in the League at Keynsham Town on Monday, 12th November; kick-off 7.45 p.m., and the next home game is on Thursday, 22nd November, with Longwell Green as the visitors.
