Paulton’s U18s won their final Somerset Floodlit Youth League Match last Thursday against Keynsham Town, and were crowned champions of Division One North.
Keynsham started brightly, belying their lowly league position, but Sam Stoppard, who has played several times for Paulton’s first team in the Evostik Southern League, hit a well-struck shot pushed away for a corner by Town keeper, Joe Jackson.
The only goal came from the penalty spot on 31 minutes, with Nathan Maggs converting after Alfie Dix was brought down bearing down on goal.
Rovers nearly added to their tally on 56 minutes when Captain, Harvey Hadrill, drilled a well struck ball out to Jordan Phillips on the right wing. His low cross was met by Liam Sweenie, bringing a great save from Jackson.
Jackson then stopped a stinging shot from Harry McLachlan and from Sam Stoppard’s in-swinging right wing corner, the ball hit the crossbar.
In the final minutes, Man of the Match Jackson saved from Dix then Connor Liddeard.
After the game, the League Chairman, Les Jordan and Secretary, Richard Sloane, presented the championship trophy.
