Gloucester City U18’s 2 Paulton Rovers U18’s 2 (Pens 4-2)

Paulton youngsters went out of the FA Youth Cup in a penalty shootout as Gloucester equalised in the 94th minute. A goal that should have been disallowed after a clear foul on Rovers keeper, Joel Parry.

The visitors had the better of early play as Luca Bailey and Leo Miller had efforts off target. On 11 minutes and against the run of play, Gloucester took the lead. A long kick off by keeper, Elliot Jones found Siegel Rodney on the right and his cross was turned home by Christian Reiger.

A minute later, Harrison Newman saw his effort smothered by Evans. In response, Harvey Long hit the post for the hosts and in the next move, Lewis Dowling’s dipping shot hit the cross bar as Rovers sought to level.

They did so on 27 minutes as a superb free kick by the impressive Newman was headed in by Will Rawling.

Paulton went ahead on 63 minutes as Rawling found Newman and his pass was stroked into the net past a despairing Jones.

So, to the lottery of penalties. Rovers had their first one saved whilst Gloucester converted all four and Paulton’s last one missed the target.
