CAMBRIDGE CITY 2 PAULTON ROVERS 0
Monday, 18th April
Paulton’s long trip to St Ives near Huntingdon ended in defeat, as they had to contend with some difficult decisions from the officials.
Cambridge had an early chance as Jon Kaye found James Hall who drove wide, but on fifteen minutes took the lead after Rovers’ left back, Aaron Brown, was disposed with Hall’s cross for Captain, Buster Harradine, to fire home.
Paulton hit back when Steve Williams found Lamar Powell, whose header fell to Mario Mateus to shoot wide. Powell set up Mateus, whose shot was held by keeper, Zac Barrett.
Both sides went into a midfield stalemate on a pitch reminiscent of Weston beach and with half-time approaching, Hall blasted a chance over the bar.
Early in the second half, Kelly nearly headed into his own net from Brown’s deep cross. Kelly and Harradine both wasted chances.
Hall was booked for protesting after he clearly dived, but on 75 minutes, his shot hit the cross bar and with his next attack brought a save from John.
Darren Mullings nearly got through as Rovers pressed for an equaliser and Dave O’Hare crossed for Nuno Felix to head wide.
In added time, Kelly’s pass to Hall looked yards offside as he ran on to make it 2–0 with no flag from the Assistant Referee.
