Paulton’s defeat at Frome Town on Easter Monday stifled their chance of getting out of the relegation zone, with a last minute goal from George Miller sending Rovers away pointless.

Jon Davies whipped in a cross shot on eight minutes, which was well pushed away by Paulton stopper, Ben John. Davies then brought a brilliant one handed save by a diving John.

Craig Allan and Alex Grimshaw were thwarting Frome attacks and in a rare Rovers attack, Dave O’Hare’s cross was headed for a corner by Chris Regan.

Davies had a free kick cleared by Allan and as the visitors broke away, there was a good move down the right by Steve Williams, who played in Jake Mawford, but his pass fell short of Tom Knighton, as home skipper, Rob Hobbs, cleared. A poor back pass saw Mitchell Page charge down John’s hasty clearance, spinning away for a goal kick.

Early in the second half Paulton’s Jordan Ricketts superbly turned his marker to shoot low, held at the far post by Town keeper, Rob Brown. Williams drilled a shot from 25 yards out held by Brown, then Ricketts fired wide.

Kris Miller’s cross found Jake Jackson, who failed to hit the target. Soon afterwards, Darren Jeffries shot saw Grimshaw deflecting for a corner.

Rovers had a great chance with five minutes left as Wiliams’ cross was met by Mawford’s header and with the goal at his mercy, the ball landed in Brown’s hands.

Four minutes later, the killer blow for Paulton saw Jeffries finding Jackson, who muscled round Grimshaw to give George Miller a simple tap-in.

Rovers are home this Saturday to Dorchester Town, kick-off at 3 p.m., then entertain league leaders, Poole Town on Tuesday, 5th April, kick-off at 7.30 p.m. The unbeaten Sunday XI go to league leaders, Athletico Cranes at Newton Memorial Park in Bath, kick-off at 10.30 a.m. The youth team lost 2–1 at home to Odd Down last Thursday.
