Lymington Town 1 Paulton Rovers 1 (Paulton win 4–3 on penalties)

Paulton were awarded a fortunate last minute penalty converted by Leighton Thomas to take it to a penalty shoot out which they won 4–3.

In the third minute Ed Butcher hit the cross bar with a free kick as Rovers pressed, followed by a neat move started by Nathan Brown into Jack Ball with Butcher’s shot parried away by Lymington debutant keeper, Joe Coombes. James Byrne then sent Will Harvey down the right and his cross was headed against the foot of the post by Thomas.

The Linnets responded with Freddie Bullard testing Rovers’ keeper, Aaron Sainsbury. Ball had a great chance on 32 minutes miskicking when he looked certain to score. Bullard equally missed a chance to put the hosts in front, with the home management team shown red and yellow cards by the referee.

Lymington took the lead three minutes into the second half as Harry McGrath headed into the path of Stephen walker who drove the ball home. Byrne’s raid down the right was causing problems in the home defence with Butcher bringing a fine save from Coombes who then saved from Thomas.

The home side were on the end of numerous yellow cards and with time running out, a penalty was awarded which Thomas easily dispatched.

As the two sides went in to a penalty shoot out, Thomas missed the first penalty. Both sides converted with Butcher, Captain Nuno Felix, Byrne and Lee Ibrahim on target, with Walker, then Bullard, missing theirs to put Paulton into the Quarter Final draw.
