RADSTOCK TOWN 3 LEBEQ UTD 2
Radstock Town completed a comeback double over visitors, Lebeq Utd in Saturday’s Toolstation League One game at Southfield.
Having gone behind at Lebeq on the opening day of the season, the visitors came back to win 2–1 and they had to overcome a deficit again to claim the points in the return fixture.
The visitors started well and efforts from James Hall and Fabian McCarthy were just off target before Morgan Skipp went close for the home side.
On nineteen minutes, Ali Sen found himself a yard of space inside the Lebeq penalty area and delighted the home crowd with a curling shot that flew past the despairing dive of Ahmed Ouammi in the visitor’s goals.
The lead should have been doubled five minutes later, but Hopper couldn’t quite get on the end of a Rico Sobers cross that flashed across the face of the goal.
The game was turned on its head on twenty-eight minutes when the home side conceded a free-kick twenty yards out in central position. Daniel Payne stepped up and drove his shot straight through the wall and into the net! And things got worse for Radstock two minutes later when the visitors went in front as Christian Dacosta ‘danced’ around three defenders before beating Scrivens with a fierce drive at the near post.
The home side thought they had equalised on thirty-seven minutes when Craig Sheppard had the ball in the Lebeq net, but his effort was ruled out for offside. However, they did draw level on forty minutes when James Rustell was on hand at the back post to guide the ball into the net after the visitor’s defence failed to deal with a cross from Skipp.
The second period started with Lebeq in a very determined mood. They dominated the possession for long periods, but they couldn’t find their way past a resolute home defence, and in fact, it was the ‘Miners’ who could have gone in front in the sixtieth minute when Morgan Skipp pulled the ball back to Craig Sheppard, but his effort sailed over the bar.
The introduction of new signing, Joe Cooper, in the sixty-fifth minute brought a different dynamic to the home side. His probing runs and ball control immediately caused problems for the visitors, and it was through his winning the ball on the halfway line that started the movement that led to Jack Hopper driving a low cross into the box for Rustell to slide into the net in the seventieth minute.
Both sides created chances in the closing minutes, but it was
former Radstock Town player, Ibrahima Sarr, who almost came closest to an added time equaliser, but Scrivens managed to hold on to the ball and with that the three points for the home side.
