A pulsating last twenty minutes saw the bulk of chances in the game and unfortunately for Rovers, it was St Neots that grabbed the only goal.
The Saints’ winger, Charlie Coulson, drove the ball straight at Paulton stopper, Ben John and the response was a move down the left, combing Leon Jeanne and Darren Mullings, whose goal-bound shot hit his striker, Jake Mawford.
Drew Roberts’ dipping drive was held by John and then the keeper saved at Roberts’ feet, as he looked odds-on to score.
On the half hour Jordan Ricketts was set up by Jeanne, only to fire wide.
Rovers piled on the pressure in the second half, with Jeanne’s shot deflected into Archers’ arms.
A mistake by Town’s centre half, Tom Ward, saw Mario Mateus rob him, bearing down on goal. Ward recovered to make a last ditch tackle.
In that last twenty minutes, Roberts had a shot deflected by Grimshaw away for a corner, substitute Jordan Brown volleying wide and Roberts thwarted by a supberb save by John, turning the ball for a corner.
Mullings and Jeanne, in sucession, had drives deflected for corners by Cambridge United loanee, Danny Burns.
St Neots twice had efforts by an Adam Tann header and Pete Clarke cleared off Rovers’ line by Steve Williams and Aaron Brown respectively.
Ricketts broke through and went one-on-one with Archer looking certain to score but the giant keeper smothered his chance.
Three minutes from time, Paulton gave the ball away in midfield. Brown ran down the left and his shot was parried by John into the path of Clarke, who tapped in from close range.
Star Man of the Match: Darren Mullings (Paulton Rovers).
