It was the first round of the Dimmock Green KO Cup last Saturday, and Mells, who had not played a game to date, owing to postponed games, found it very difficult away against Westhill Sports’ young side, who scored five without reply. However, this does not tell the true story, with the Mells forwards missing lots of good chances to score.
Frome Collegians had a good home win against Purnell Reserves, also in the KO Cup.
In the Tony Baxter Shield, Saltford Reserves travelled to Chilcompton United and after a tremendous battle, came away with a 6–4 victory; goals coming from Ben Bryant (3), Sam Jones, Guy Turner and Andy Minchin. Somer Valley won at home against Glastonbury Reserves, 5–1. Scorers were Jon West-Gaul (3) and Captain, Dean Haley (2). Wessex Glastonbury came through a difficult home game against Purnell A, winning 4–3. There was only one game in the Premier Division last weekend – Westfield Reserves played out a 0–0 draw with Wells A.
In Division One, Victoria are keeping their excellent start to the season, going away to Chilcompton Reserves and winning 4–0 with goals from top scorer, Dan Linham, bagging three and Mathew Day. Meadow Rangers, at home, fought very hard against the very strong Baltonsborough team and at half-time the score was 0–0 but in the first twenty minutes of the second half, the visitors had scored four, with the final score being 4–0. Chew Reserves went away to Pilton and also managed a very good 4–0 win.
Division Two saw Evercreech, at home, putting in a real shift to draw with Bath Villa, 3–3. Coleford Reserves with goals from Andrew Burns, Jordon Phillips and Jamie Olding went away to Frome Town Sports Reserves to win 3–0. Mells Reserves at home shared the points with Westhill Sports Reserves, drawing 3–3. Peasedown Albion continue to knock in the goals, beating Pensford Reserves away, 5–0. In Division Three, Farrington Reserves at home drew 2–2 with Timsbury Reserves. Old Crown had a good win at home to Pilton Reserves, 4–0 and Peasedown Albion Reserves beat Westfield A, 5–0.
