Timsbury Athletic 2 Street Reserves 1
Timsbury Athletic dug out their seventh win out of eight league matches in the Uhlsport Somerset County League Division One with a hard fought 2–1 home win against a resolute Street Reserves side.
A much changed side struggled to find the fluency of many of their previous games this season but they claimed the vital three points to maintain their challenge at the top of the division.
Sean Derrick came close to giving Timsbury an early lead, forcing Liam Norris to make a smart save but in general, it was the visitors who looked the brighter of the two sides and both leading scorers, Nick Fowler and Rich Fowler were just wide of the post with good efforts.
Their positive play eventually gained its reward after twenty minutes. Ashton Tucker did well to save from Mike Calverley, but the rebound fell neatly into the path of Nick Fowler, who had the simplest of chances to poke the ball in.
A strong run at the other end from Chris Midgley ended with a comfortable save for Norris, but Calverley missed a great opportunity to double Street’s advantage, shooting over with the goal at his mercy. Norris saved well from a crisp Liam Craze drive before Timsbury drew level ten minutes from half-time when Reuben Hobbs hammered home after good work from Ellis Hancock.
Street continued to threaten early in the second half with the dangerous Calverley forcing Tucker to save well and then hitting the home crossbar from a free-kick. At the other end, Matt Brooks who had come on as a second half substitute, saw his flick from Craze’s corner saved on the line before the home side grabbed the crucial goal after 64 minutes. Mike Haley attempted to pass back to his keeper, but was crucially short and Tim Midgley showed good anticipation to nip in and coolly lob the advancing Norris.
Both sides had their chances as the game remained in the balance with Rich Fowler wasting a free-kick on the edge of the home box and then Tim Midgley spurning a chance at the other end after smart inter-play with Hancock. Right on time Tucker produced a vital save from Lucas Kyselica to secure another three points.
