Frome Town U18s v Paulton Rovers U18s

After almost a year since their last floodlit league fixture, both teams were looking forward to getting the game kicked off.

Paulton took control of possession early on in the game, however, it was the hosts who came closest to scoring first. The lively Frome Town striker, latching on to a poor back pass, beat the oncoming keeper only to see his effort rebound off the post.

Paulton did find a breakthrough after 25 minutes, when Lucas Schwalbe-Goodwin scored with his left foot from close range, assisted by a fantastic through ball coming from Kai Williamson.

The lead was doubled seven minutes later by Captain, Harrison Newman, who displayed some fine footwork before slotting the ball into the far corner.

Paulton made two changes at the break, followed by another substitution just five minutes into the second half.

With fresh legs on the pitch, Paulton were playing with confidence and it wasn’t long until they scored again. This time, a fantastic cross from Dan Simpson-Jarman that was met by the head of Harrison to get his second goal of the game.

Four minutes later, Dan went from provider to goalscorer, winning the ball back on the edge of the penalty box before finishing well into the top right corner.

The next goal came from the penalty spot and was put away by Louis Norman, who had been causing problems for Frome down the right since coming on, and was then brought down just inside the box.

Dan then got his second goal of the game, again winning the ball high up the pitch before slotting it past the oncoming goalkeeper with his left foot.

The best goal of the game came in the 76th minute, with some fantastic build up play down the right this time dispatched by the number 9, Leo Miller. Great to watch!

There was time for one more goal from the visitors, a corner kick met by centre-back, Lewis Dowling, who headed well to complete the game for Paulton, who came away with a convincing three points after a brilliant performance all round.

This Thursday, 16th September, Paulton’s U18’s are home to Portishead Town in the first Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup, kick-off 7.30 pm.
