Paulton boss John Rendell was left frustrated as his side dominated but came away empty-handed.

Defensive errors gifted the home side a two-goal first half lead, as Dec Sheppard’s eleventh-minute corner on the left was adjudged to have crossed the line, then a further error saw George Seacole add a second on twenty minutes.

Eighteen-year-old Jordan Lovibond, making his debut for Rovers, cut in from the left and his drive was held by ‘Millers’’ keeper, Ross Grimshaw.

A dressing room rocket saw Paulton start the second half a different outfit, and on 47 minutes, James Byrne’s right-wing corner was played out to Joe Guest, who hammered the ball into the net.

Three minutes later it was 2-2, as Liam Monelle cut in from the left and hit a corker of a thunderbolt, giving Grimshaw no chance. Rovers looked to dominate, but on 56 minutes, a long-ball from Dan James saw Seacole fasten on to slot past George Burton.

Paulton piled on the pressure, and another equaliser looked on the cards when the referee incorrectly awarded a throw in North Leigh’s way, catching Rovers’ defence by surprise, and Sheppard broke through to fire home for his side’s fourth. Two minutes later, Matt Sysum headed home Sheppard’s corner to make it 5-2.

In added time, Omar Simpson broke down the right wing and his low-cross was turned home by substitute, Jack Ball.

The lesson for Paulton was to tighten up in defence, and having the majority of play means nothing if you cannot stick the ball in the net.
