Timsbury are through to the next round of the Davidstow National Village Cup after a thrilling three wicket win away to familiar adversaries, Wembdon. They now have an appetising home fixture in the next round against local rivals, Chew Magna, on May 29th.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Wembdon established a strong position thanks to Dan Bingham (47), Karl Trunks (45), Billy Vickery (32) and Captain, Jon Brockwell (30) but Timsbury stuck to their task and late wickets restricted the home side to 195–9 from their forty overs. Jesse Bishop was the most successful bowler with 3–35, skipper, Steve Clothier, took 3–52 and Sam Hoddinott bowled another tight spell to collect 2–36 from his nine overs.
In reply, Mark Sage continued his excellent start to the season with a crucial knock of 70 and he was well supported first by Jon Strand (26) and Bishop (20), but most significantly, by Jack Williams. Stepping up from the seconds, Williams saw Timsbury home with a fine undefeated knock of 52 in partnership with Hoddinott (13 not out) as the visitors reached their target with over five overs to spare. For the home side there were three wickets each for Daniel Watts and Aaron Phillips.
