WELTON Rovers were unable to build on their Boxing Day victory at Radstock, falling to a comprehensive 4–1 defeat away at Odd Down in the first division of the Jewson Western League.
The match proceeded following a late pitch inspection with the hosts applying early pressure. Welton soon settled, and a fine individual run from Matt Morris ended with a dipping strike that was smartly saved by goalkeeper Matt Green.
Welton’s bright spell was rewarded after seven minutes. A pinpoint cross by Will Ford found Morris, who met it with a superb first‑time volley.
The lead, however, lasted less than a minute. Treymond Anderson exploited a static Welton back line, breaking through before calmly placing his finish into the corner.
Anderson threatened again shortly afterwards, but Welton keeper Will Hunter produced a low save to deny him. Just before the interval, Aaron Seviour saw a goal‑bound effort deflected wide, and the sides went in level at half‑time.
Odd Down emerged revitalised after the break and struck twice within six minutes to take control of the contest. First, Anderson’s shot was parried by Hunter, only for Jack Paul to react quickest and convert from close range. Moments later, full‑back Jack Kelsey was afforded too much space; he unleashed a powerful strike into the far corner to extend the hosts’ advantage.
Welton made changes in an attempt to regain momentum, but Odd Down remained firmly on top. Their fourth goal—arguably a leading contender for their goal of the season—arrived when Kelsey met a cross from 25 yards with a stunning volley that almost tore through the net.
Welton believed they had reduced the deficit late on when Green, back‑pedalling, caught a high cross and appeared to fall over the line after colliding with the post. Despite strong appeals, no goal was awarded.
