Welton made the short trip over the Mendips to Wells and for the second week running, in their travels, came away with three points.

It was Welton who took the game to their hosts; a great ball from Dave Cooper found Lewis Hunt on a charge down the right and his first time effort flew goalwards only to be blocked on the line and cleared for a corner.

The corner was met by Will Hunter, whose powerdriver of a header was cleared by the defence. Wells responded to this early Welton pressure, a pacey run down the left flank to the goal line from Liam Davis saw him square the ball to James Bisgrove and his volley was cleared for a corner.

Cooper was then in the action at the other end, when he somehow managed to scoop the ball over the Wells bar with the goal at his mercy. Welton keeper, Tom Drewitt, was then called into action with a good save to deny Warren Mylum.

This game was going from end to end and Aaron Seviour beat his marker, found full back, Alex Wych, and he fired in a tremendous shot from 25 yards out that skimmed the top of the Wells crossbar.

It was all Welton now as they pressed for the opening goal, Chris Pile tore through the Wells defence, launched a cracking shot that rebounded out and fell to Seviour, whose follow-up shot was cleared. The breakthrough finally arrived five minutes before half-time. Good play from Cooper saw him hold the ball up and then thread a quality pass to Seviour, who made no mistake with his shot to give Welton a deserved half-time lead.

The first action of the second half saw a thundering header from Hunter, who rose above the Wells defence, fly over the bar. Bisgrove then responded for the hosts, only to see his final effort go way off target. When Wells did press the Welton defence, they found Tom Smith and Hunter in solid form and able to deal with what was being thrown at them.

The game was beginning to stagnate and Welton really needed the second goal to secure the points. So, Manager, Clive Scott brought on youngsters, Dylan Hatt and Lewis Coleman, much to the delight of the travelling Green Army.

Coleman was straight in the action and excellent play by the youngster saw him tear down the right, easily round his marker and then deliver a pinpoint cross into the six-yard box where Lewis Russell was on hand to drill the ball into the Wells net and secure the three points for Welton.

This Saturday, Welton entertain Bishops Lydiard at West Clewes, kick-off at 3 p.m.
