Paulton played their first home pre-season game welcoming Cymru Welsh Premier League side, Penybont from Bridgend.

The visitors brought a large contingent of support and started well as Lewis Clutton’s cross evaded the oncoming Dan Smith.

Penybont took a fifth minute lead as Sam Snaith’s cross from the left was slammed home by the on-rushing Clutton.

Four minutes later, Rovers thought they had levelled as striker, Leighton Thomas, played in Tyler Jackson and his cross was met by a thunderous header by a Trialist that rattled off the cross bar.

Paulton keeper, Aaron Sainsbury, saved smartly from Clutton’s low shot and then tipped over a dipping shot from Mael Davies.

Paulton levelled on 58 minutes as right back, Trey Anderson, threaded a through ball which Thomas raced onto and hit a powerful shot across visiting keeper, Ashley Morris and into the net.

Thomas was posing a real danger and on 64 minutes he made it 2–1 to Paulton. In similar vein he raced onto a through ball, this time from substitute, Lesley Sternbank, to out muscle and turn his

defender to hit what proved to be the winning goal.

In the dying minute, Scrivens saved as several Penybont players tried to play head tennis with the ball as they sought an equaliser.

Rovers’ boss, John Rendell, was really pleased with the commitment against strong opposition. Many of the squad are still in their teens and were undaunted by a much more experienced outfit.

On Friday Paulton are home to Radstock Town, kick-off 7.30 pm. On Wednesday, 14th July the side are also at home to Bath City, kick-off 7.30 pm.

Paulton Rovers would like to recruit a volunteer match day announcer and also a videographer. Guidance will be given – a great opportunity to gain experience.
