Fosseway Seniors Golf Presentation Lunch
Retiring Seniors' Captain, Terry Button, reflected on a year in which the Seniors' section had won fourteen of their social matches and said that despite the problems caused by the weather, he had thoroughly enjoyed his year at the helm. He regretted that the club had lost fixtures against some of the larger clubs, most recently Farrington, as it gave members the chance to test their skills on larger courses. He added that the club had a really varied list of competitions and praised Competition Secretary, Rod Bruce, for all the work he had put in. Terry Button thanked Secretary, Ray Lake, and Treasurer, Colin Moon, together with Fosseway Handicaps Secretary, Gary Wilcox. On what had been a difficult year for the groundstaff,he said that there had been excellent playing facilities.
The Payer of the Year and recipient of the Roger Tabb Trophy was Malcolm Tucker, who won five events including the Seniors Open and Winter League and was runner-up in two others. It had also been good seasons for Howard Nowell, Graham Edgell and newcomer, Bob Smith. Nowell won five competitions and Edgell and Smith, three each.
At the close, the new Captain, Gerald Rowell, was presented with his lapel and blazer badges of office by Terry Button. Members were then able to view an impressive display of portrait/caricatures of Seniors drawn by groundsman, George Bidmead, whose consistent help and support on the course has been much appreciated by the Seniors.
