Frome swimmers have started the new season with conviction! The first meet of the year was the Somerset Development Meet held at Millfield pool. Frome took a team of 28 swimmers with some taking part in their first major open meet. Newly-appointed Club Captains, Alice Dixon and Ryan Hann, were on hand to help steady the nerves and make sure everyone was cheered on and the atmosphere was fantastic. There were gold medals for Bryany Cornish, Lawrence Sims, Keira-Leigh Underhill and Tatiana Hooper, with Hooper featuring in the top three for all her eleven events.
This was just the send-off Club Coach, Paul Ryman, needed as he set off for New Zealand to compete in the finals of the World Triathlon Championships and he said he was really proud of the achievements of all who took part and hoped he could do as well in his event.
In his absence, Frome swimmers joined forces with Wells and Shepton Mallet Club to compete in the first round of the National Arena League under the name of Three Towers Swim Team.
The top swimmers are selected to take part and the team were hosting the event in Bath.
Up against teams from Chepstow, Paignton, Torquay, Torridgeside and Bristol Penguins, the competition was going to be stiff, but Three Towers swimmers started well with Frome swimmers gaining first place in the first two events.
They continued to score highly throughout, but Torquay were on form and at one point the gap between them was down to two points.
Three Towers held their lead, notching up nineteen first places and finished in top spot with 220 points, Torquay were second with 212, followed by Paignton with 196, Bristol Penguins 189, Chepstow 116 and Torridgeside 112.
This result puts Three Towers at the top of the table for Division Two of the league.
A huge thank you to all the swimmers for a fantastic event and thanks to all the officials and helpers who gave their time to run the competition.
