Wells Golf Club's Captain's 'Drive In' took place recently where a full field of eighty eight players had a shotgun start, commiserations goes to the unfortunate ladies team of Joan Stembridge, Lindsey Sloman, Marilyn Cole and Jan Hayward who drew the short straw and had to tee off on the furthest hole in the back field.
The Captain's drives on the 1st Tee set the pattern for the day with Sienna, Gwyn, Phil and Mike making everyone else look good by deciding to slice, duff, hook and top their drives and the Club raised several hundreds of pounds for on-course projects.
Winners on the day - 1st Dave Hayward/Andy Williams/Steve Rowse/Ben Avis - 88 points - 2nd Darren Barnett/Rory Passmore/Duncan Bratt/Bryn Ashton - 85 points - 3rd Steve Jones/Martyn Pugh/Rhys Pugh/Dylan Pugh - 84 points.
The 3-ball Texas Scramble had a great turnout of thirty two teams – winners were 1st Stuart Davis, Sienna Elliott, Simon Elliott - 57 point - 2nd Mike McKay, Ken Mitchell, Graham Williamson - 58 - 3rd Michael Blane, Aidan Guy, Simon Harris - 59.
The first official club match of the 2023 Wells golf season saw the Stragglers take the trip over to Worlebury on a briskly chilly morning – we had many debut players so welcome to all. Stragglers captain Guy Timson and Donald Hudson led the match off and ended up 4 and 3 winners and Cath Level and Neil Kite won their match by the same margin but unfortunately all our other pairs didn’t fare as well, meaning we ended up going down 3-2.
The Stragglers is open to every member of the club so if you fancy a fun friendly competitive Sunday through the year please get in touch with Guy.
