With the end of the season in sight, Mendip began this match knowing that they desperately needed three points to avoid relegation.
The home side began well, keeping possession of the ball and early on, left wing, Connie Glover, opened the scoring, connecting at the left post after a well-executed short corner routine. Mendip continued to play well; making the most of the space offered to them and passed well to keep pressure on the Clevedon defence. There were goals galore with Glover bagging herself a hat trick, as well as Carol Holmes and Emily Browning both scoring twice and captain, Jackie Browning’s effort which brought the score to 8–0 at half time.
The second half brought more pressure for the Mendip defence as Clevedon made it difficult for the home side to continue with their fine form of the first half. The defence were alert and able to snuff out any threats early on. Midfielder, Jasmine Scott, linked well with the defence to move the ball up the pitch using her speed and skill, earning herself player of the match in the process.
Although Clevedon stepped up their game, Mendip were still able to break through. Glover scored one more to bring her tally to four and the tenth goal was scored by Karen Inns who got the better of the defence to get the ball in the back of the net.
Next week, Mendip face Bristol University at home, 1.30 p.m. push back.
