The Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club came together for their annual Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal day and raised a total of £350 for the charity.
Mike Ricketts took the honours on the golf course with a fine return of 41 points followed by the on-form Cyril Blacker with 38 and Alan White who scored 37 points. The event saw the highest number of members taking part for some time and they were rewarded at the end by a fine array of cakes kindly provided by Linda Hallett and Di Nowell.
Blacker took the honours in the October medal in the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club with an impressive nett score of 62. Two shots behind came Malcolm Tucker with a nett score of 64 with Phil Winsley third on 65.
The competition for the Vic South trophy proved to be a successful one for two of the hard working club officials. Secretary Alan Jones joined up with treasurer Geoff Hallett and Winsley to win the winter bowmaker with a total of 79 points. In a closely contested event, Martyn Cuer, Frank Reeves and Mike Weeks also compiled 79 points only to be beaten on count back while just one point behind came Blacker, Ricketts and White.
The rearranged Committee Cup needed count back to sort out the winners with Brian Phelps and Richard Dancey eventually emerging the victors. Their nett score of 63 was equalled by White and Richard Sullivan who finished in second place. Cuer and Tucker were third with a nett score of 65.
The members of Fosseway Seniors are mourning the loss of another of their popular players. Less than a week after taking part in the Committee Cup John Waters passed away at home. The Seniors send their condolences to all the family.
