THE Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club continued their unbeaten start to the series of social matches with a 4-1 home win over Kingweston.
The visitors were only able to bring nine players and so the match comprised of four pairs matches and a singles matchplay. Malcolm Emery and Shaun Goodwin and Paul Trigg and Mike Weeks both won their encounters 4&3, Paul Ellis and Noel Chatfield finished 2 up and Malcolm Tucker won the singles match 3&2. Phil Winsley and Anthony Gregory had a close game before losing 2 &1.
A large number of the seniors enjoyed a two-day visit to the Royal Forest of Dean Golf Club with some impressive scores emerging on both days. Secretary Alan Jones set the pace on day one with an excellent Stableford total of 44 points, followed closely by John Cooper on 42 points. Chris Appleton was third with 38 points beating Malcolm Emery on countback.
Cyril Blacker mirrored Jones’ first day efforts with a top round on day two, again amassing 44 points. Chris Champion came second with 39 points beating Cooper, a recent recruit to the club, on countback. It proved a lucrative couple of days for Cooper who also won the prize for longest drive on day two .
The Brixey family also had plenty to celebrate. Pauline not only won the prize for the longest drive on day one but was also nearest the pin on day two and was the only player to achieve a two spot. Meanwhile husband Steve, not to be totally overshadowed, was nearest the pin on day one.
It turned out to be a most successful two day trip and thanks go to Paul Trigg for his excellent organisation and to the Brixeys for their invaluable assistance and the provision of prizes and the newly acquired Old Romans trophy.
