The members of Wells Golf Club met on a cold and frosty morning to welcome in the new Captains at their Drive-in.
Club Captain, Colin Mantle, Senior Men’s Captain, John Moxon, Ladies’ Captain, Cath Levell and Juniors’ Captain, Freddie Levell, all drove off straight and true, setting a high standard for the coming year.
Markers were set to see who could land closest, and then the shotgun competition started, with 23 teams taking part. The wind kept the rain and clouds at bay, but kept the temperature not far off freezing.
Geoff Ead won nearest the Captain’s Drive, and winning overall, with 87 points, were Mike Bailey, Ken Mitchell, Roly Currell and Eric Loxton. There were four teams with 81 points, so on countback, the runners-up were
Phil Leonard, Gary Nutt, Colin Payne and John Hockey. In third place were Dave Hayward, Ashton Wylie, Pete Bartholomew and Guy Timson.
