Club Professional at Mendip, Stuart Disney, continues to keep the men occupied with his ‘Nearest the Pin’ competitions held on the simulator. The latest saw a win for Andy Griffiths with Club Captain, Richard Jeffrey, second, Rowley Williams, third, and Club Captain Elect, John Shakesby, fourth.

Despite cold and windy conditions 36 ladies competed in an Arizona Shuffle event, whatever that may be! Jenny Merrett, Edwina Willis and Elaine Richardson were well clear of the field, with 42 points. In second place, after count back, were Margaret Allen, Lulu Carolan and Anne Hopkins, with Pauline Williams, Gina Howard and Caroline Simper third.

The Seniors’ Captain, Andy Frampton, decided that the first three Seniors events in 2018 would be team events, rather than an Individual Stableford, as had usually been the case. A good decision it seems, with the second of these events, a Texas Scramble, attracting an entry of 78 in cold wintry conditions. Scoring was competitive, with Michael Kent, Ian Perkins and Brian Say returning an excellent net 61.4, but this was only good enough to secure them fourth position. In third place, with 61.1, were Chris Bryant, Keith Millard and Roger Wickett. With 60.9, Simon Atkinson, Andy Frampton and Bryan Lewis gained second place, but the overall winners, with 60.1, were Chris Bennett, Alan Evans-Jones and Dick Ransley.
