The annual Centenary Match took place between Mendip and Worlebury with 12 pairings representing each Club.

Mendip made home advantage count to regain the Centenary Cup 7½-4½. Victorious for Mendip were Seniors’ Captain, Andy Frampton, partnered by his Vice Capain, Bryan Lewis, Wayne Black/Alan Edwards, Paul Smith and Club Captain, John Shakesby, Nigel Brokenshire/Martin Wilkins, Jim Scott/Chris Bryant and Duncan Offer/Phil Butcher, with halves gained by James Taylor/Mike Snaith, Ladies Captain Bron Cooper/Anita Butcher and Tony Taylor/Jim Boyce.

The Men’s Centenary Bowmaker saw a win for Henry Jeffery/Matt Bendall/Chris Huzal/James Baughan, with 96 points, with Steve Whalen/Stephen Coate/Brian Rawlings/

Richard Clifford in second place, with 94, three points ahead of Tony Logan/Ryan Sainsbury/Clive Copp/Julian Redpath, who were third.

The Mid-Week Stableford was played in extremely testing conditions, with a very strong wind, accompanied by fierce showers, making scoring very difficult. Division One saw a win for Martin Myers, with 31 points, beating Troy Chivers on count back. Division Two went to Lawrence Eyles, with 34, followed by Tony Williams 33, and Alan O’Leary 30. Division Three saw a fine 36 points from Andy Parfitt and he was followed by Mike Merrick, 35, and Darryl Livingstone on 34.

The Ladies’ Stableford saw a win in Silver Division for Chris Olds, with 35, with Jo Espley second, with 33, a point ahead of Chris Atkinson. Bronze Division went to Chris Williams, with 33, with Diane Stanton second, with 28, and Margaret Hawker third, with 27. Copper Division went to Wendy Norman, with 35, with Val Dixon second, with 30, and Gina Howard third, with 29. The Ladies Alliance B Team had a fine away win at Orchardleigh, 10-4, with wins for Vi Hayes, Edwina Willis, Chris Down, Hilary Rowdon and Anita Butcher. Mendip just need three points from their last match at Worlebury to retain their Division Four status.

The annual running of the Seniors’ Pairs event, a drawn for partners competition, attracted a good entry. Competitors were again faced with demanding playing conditions which kept the scoring low. However, worthy winners were John Ellis and Michael Kent, with 43 points, Colin Davies and Nick Inskip were second, with 42 points, and Abe Fukuyama and John Stembridge were third, with 41, after a triple count back.

Mendip Seniors played their annual match against the Ladies and on this occasion were victorious 5½- 3½. Senior winners were Merlyn Saunders/John Whyman, Selwyn Rees/Bob Smallcombe, Geoff Mosley/Stephen Smith and Kevin Carmody/Martin Osborne. The Ladies’ points came from Jinhee Page/Margaret Allen and Vi Hayes/Libby Bellew, and there were three halved matches.

The Mendip Seniors halved their match when visiting Weston. Wins for Mendip came from Terry Carter/Alan Edwards, Martin Osborne/Jim Scott and Bryan Lewis/Steve Creese.
