The Mens’ Avalon A Team recorded a good 3-2 win over Stockwood Vale. Winning pairs for Mendip were Ben Cox/Will Waddington, Mark Crook/Matt Horler and Dan Allen/Wayne Srawley.

The Mendip Ladies’ Qualifying Stableford attracted an excellent entry of 44 competitors. Copper Division was won by Margaret Shrimpton, with 36 points, with Alison Letts second, with 35 and Daphne Irons third, with 34. Bronze Division saw a win for Andrea Williams, with 34, Libby Bellew was second, with 32 and Diane Stanton third, with 31 after count back.

Silver Division saw Jenny Merrett in third place, with 34 after count back, Fran Davies carded an excellent 39 points for second place, but the round of the day was by Anne Hopkins, who scored an outstanding 42 points, to win the Division and earn her a handicap reduction from 19 to 16!

The Ladies’ Friendly Team entertained Burnham and recorded a fine 3-2 win. Victorious for Mendip were the pairings of Julia Phillips/Susy Rudkin, Eileen Masters/Anne Padley and Sandie Roper/Pauline Williams.

The Seniors’ Avalon Team visited Mendip Spring and went down to a narrow defeat, 2-3. Winning for Mendip were Andy Frampton/Phil Bendall and Kevin Carmody/Mike Snaith.

The Seniors’ Friendly Team were busy this week. Firstly they entertained Orchardleigh and recorded a good 5-1 win. Successful for Mendip were Bryan Lewis/Simon Atkinson, Steve Cox/Martyn Russell, Henry Banks/David Garnsworthy, Martin Osborne/Kee Low and Mike Lill/Malcolm Hare. They then visited Tidworth, but found the home team too strong, losing a most enjoyable match 3-5. Wins came from John Stembridge/David Pilbeam and Martin Osborne/David Garnsworthy, with halves being gained by Simon Wynn/Alan Edwards and Tony Taylor/John Brooksbank.

The Mendip Mixed Team also visited Tidworth and played in perfect weather, excellent course conditions and a very convivial atmosphere. The home side put out a very strong team, with only Rob and Sue Needham recording a win for Mendip. However, there was much to celebrate, with Mike Philips achieving a hole in one, on his first visit to Tidworth.

The Pro Shop Nearest the Pin was won by Tony Taylor, with Phil Butcher second and Scott Butland third.
