A new name to remember at Mendip in the future: Tildee Rocker-Cook, daughter of Competitions Chairman Rob Cook, recently played in a Somerset Mini’s Tournament at Tickenham.

Nine year old Tildee has only been playing for a year and found the greens like putting on glass, something that she had never encountered before. Despite this she scored 50 over the 9 holes finishing third on countback to girls two and five years older. Well done Tildee.

The Avalon A Team had a fine 4-1 win over Stockwood Vale. Wins came from Dani Annable Manzaneda/Tom Black, Ryan Sainsbury/Lee Britten and Dan Allen/Spencer Pocock with halves gained by Rob Edney/Paul Lewis and Phil Leadbeater/Bryan Rawlings (who filled in at the very last minute).

The Mens Avalon C Team welcomed two debutants, Leigh Harvey and Tom Hill for their match away to Long Sutton. A narrow defeat 2-3 with wins from Dean Lewer/Chris Butland and Gary Quinn/John Ellis. The Avalon B Team saw debuts for Tom Rowland, Jeremy Lawrence and Ian Hall when visiting Wheathill. A good 3-2 win with success for Tom and Jeremy, Alex Gay and Charles Whitaker and Rich Clifford and Cliff Hall.

Fifty competed in the Mid Week Stableford which in Div 1 saw a win for Chris Lindley with 37 points with James Baughan second with 34. Div 2 went to Chris Bryant with 38 and Cameron Elliott was second with 36. Div 3 was won by Greg Wood with 36 on countback from Henry Banks.

Nearest the Pin went to John Ellis, John Broxup was second and Tony Logan third.

The Ladies Friendly Team visited Farrington and went down 1-3. ICL Team met a similar fate when visiting Enmore going down 2½-4½. Wins came from Anita Butcher and Pippa Brown with Chris Williams gaining a half.

Ladies Captain Aimee Sawyer ran a ‘Celebrating Women’s Golf Day’ event with 36 ladies playing in the team competition. The winners were Jinhee Page/Julie Doyle/ Lilian Peel/Louise Scott with 81 points with Gina Howard/Kay O’Connor/Fran Davies/Diane Stanton second with 80.

Mendip’s Open Mixed Bowmaker attracted a good field and saw clear winners being a team from Romsey/Chilworth with 87 points, seven clear of the second team who came from Oake Manor/Honiton, with the third placed Team from Cricket St Thomas a further five shots back with 75. Best Mendip Team were David & Christine Jukes playing with Louise and Tony Scott.

The Seniors had a handsome win over Enmore 5½-½. Wins from Bryan Lewis/Andy Frampton, Robert Miller/Peter Rumming, John Ellis/Andy Humphries, Tony Scott/Rob Richardson and John Shakesby/David Pilbeam with Nigel Cheshire/Paul Wood gaining the half.

The annual Mixed RNLI event saw a fine win for Libby and Derek Bellew with 40 points beating Julie Doyle/Mark Necker by a single point, with Allison and Peter Rumming also with 39 losing out on countback.
