The Ladies’ Section at Orchardleigh Golf Club are back in full swing with events and competitions after a year of no social events or club matches.
Lady Captain, Sonia Probert organised a club “Away Day” at Bulbury Woods Golf Club in Dorset on Tuesday, 15th June.
It was a perfect warm sunny day with 27 ladies taking part in a ‘waltz’ format stableford competition in teams of three.
The winning team were Pat Jones, Christine Arnold and Mary Lock. Nearest the pin for Silver was won by Lorraine Collings and Bronze Lin Handley.
Nearest the line was won jointly by Diana Bullock and Mary Ford. The best individual score was won by Loes de Kleuver (Silver) with 32 points and Pat Jones (Bronze) with 38 points.
On Saturday, 26th June, Lady Captain’s Day took place at Orchardleigh when again the weather was perfect. Some of the lady members had fun decorating a buggie for Sonia.
A field of 27 ladies took part in a Texas Scramble in teams of three which was won by Lorraine Collings, Sue Chalker and Rebecca Richards. In second place was Sue Sweet, Sue Marshall and Mary Lock. Anne Regler won nearest the pin.
Nearest the pin in three on Hole 1 was won by Diana Bullock, Anne Regler and Mollie Stubbings and on Hole 15 Christine Arnold, Gail Painter and Anne Carpenter. Sonia had provided a half way house of Pimms and nibbles.
Other recent competition winners have been Anne Regler winning the Barwell Masters. Loes de Kleuver won the Dickinson Qualifier, Christine Arnold the Barlow Qualifier and Mary Ford is the Grass Roots Qualifier.
All three players now qualify to play in the SLCGA Handicap Championships at Burnham and Berrow on 12th August. The Vincent Cup played in two rounds of eighteen holes was won by Ann James.
So far, Orchardleigh Ladies have done well in the Bristol & District Alliance league drawing away to Saltford 7–7, followed by a series of home wins to The Mendip 12–2, Weston-super-Mare 8–6, Henbury C 10–4 and Chipping Sodbury 8–6.
In the Somerset Interclub league Orchardleigh have played two matches so far, both at home, winning against Minehead 6–1 and drawing with Wheathill 3.5–3.5. Sarah Doble
