Farrington Park’s Mixed Section celebrated the easing of Lockdown restrictions with their first ‘major’ competition of the year: the Parker Charity Shield.
Last year the competition was played in October, having been postponed due to the first COVID-19 Lockdown. This year, it returned to its normal April place and sixteen pairs contested for the Shield playing an American Greensomes Stableford format.
All entry fees are donated to the joint Captains’ chosen charities and these have benefitted by £160.
The final scores were very close and countback was employed to determine third place after three teams scored 43 points each. Margaret Seery and Phil Thompson won on countback, relegating Mandy and Steve Hobbs to fourth place with Min and Mike
Woodward taking fifth place.
Bob and Denise Baker scored 45 points to take second place and must have thought they had done enough to win the Shield. However, the winners were Pauline and Steve Brixey, who had an excellent round, parring several of the Duchy course’s more difficult holes to earn maximum points and finishing with an unassailable score of 47 points.
