The Ladies section at Orchardleigh Golf Club challenged the Senior section in a fun annual competition which took place on Wednesday, 27th September in dry but breezy weather conditions, as luckily the threat of storm Agnes didn’t batter our part of the country.

Twenty four members took part in the Four Ball Individual Stableford competition. The total of the individual scores on each team were totted up and for the first time since the competition has been running, the Ladies team was stronger than the Seniors, winning 350 points to 334. And this was despite two ladies having to be on the mens’ team to make up the numbers.

The winning mixed pair Pat Jones and Michael Hillier achieved 70 points while Sue Sweet (playing on the Senior’s team) and Helen Marshall came second with 64 points. The prize for the best individual score on the Ladies’ team went to Loes de Kleuver with 36 points and for the Seniors William Blanning with 37 points. Nearest the pin for the Ladies was won by Helen Marshall and the Seniors Michael Hillier.

All the Seniors team donated their entry fees to the Ladies’ charity, Purple Elephant and a raffle organised by Sheila Goodbody and Lin Handley raised £135 for the same charity. The Lady Captain Loes de Kleuver thanked everyone for their generosity.

After the golf everyone enjoyed a bowl of fries in the clubhouse followed by the presentation of the prizes. Sarah Doble
