Wheathill Golf Club was again the venue for the Away Day enjoyed by the members of the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club.
Allen Cheney was the undoubted star of the day, winning the Stableford event by a clear four points with a score of 40. Pat Cray was second with 36 points, beating club Captain John Appleton on countback. Cheney also hit the longest drive, but with members only able to take one prize, that award went to Phil Moody. A similar situation occurred in the competition to find the nearest to the pin on the 18th hole. John Bendle was closest, but as he claimed the prize for the best back nine holes, John Ticehurst collected the award. Mike Ricketts had the best front nine, with 19 points. It was an excellent day out and many thanks to Terry Button and Colin Moon for their meticulous organisation.
Appleton’s impressive form continued on the following day when he joined up with Bill Lester to win the Groundsman’s Trophy with a Stableford total of 38 points. Ricketts and Gerry Rowell were one point behind with John Waters and Graham Edgell in third place.
