Stuart Austwick won the inaugural par-three trophy in fine style with 27 points. This twelve-hole, par-three individual stableford gave the opportunity to introduce the new Congu compliant twelve-hole card, where we aim to encourage those who don’t have the time for a full game of golf, taking perhaps four hours or more.

A good turnout for the early evening competition saw young and old enjoying the challenge, and all voted it a success.

Wells’ Seniors approach the end of their season in reasonably-contented style, after a drawn match and a particularly convincing win. The visit of Weston-Super-Mare Seniors brought about a keenly-contested halved match, with Alan Locke and Lawrence Sokol, Glyn Hallett and Alan Elkins and Jack Baillie and Nick Carter the successful pairings.

Three days later, Long Sutton were the visitors, and their team suffered a heavy defeat by six matches to nil against Glyn Hallett and Pete Bartholomew, Terry Searle and Ken Ford, Bill McCollum and Paul Cullen, Graham Bingham and John Watson, Peter Leverick & Mike Gee and Nick Wilson and Richard Hole. Glyn Hallett, Seniors’ Captain, thanked all those who had supported the team this year.

Wells Ladies held their annual Four-Ball Bowmaker Open, with eighty Ladies from various clubs participating.

In a mixture of sunshine and rain, the winners were: S Nancholas, P Cornish, L Lyons, C Rata from Mendip Springs with 71 points. The runners up were: S Underwood, A Wakely, L Handley, A Castle with 69 points.

First out for the Stragglers’ match were Terry Searle and Bill Levell. Second out were Paul Cullen and Steve Heath, who won comfortably. John Baker and Steve Porter kept things under control, and a good half on the 16th saw them triumph 3&2. Richard Mansfield and Adam Holiday had an interesting and very tense match ending in a half. Gary Leigh and Ron Davy played just one opponent. Wells won 3.5-1.5.

The Ladies’ Daphne Pring Salver was hotly contested, with Polly Williams coming first, followed by Jen Jones in second place on countback from Janice White.
