Mendip Ladies Firsts 1 Corsham 2

Mendip were home to promotion hopefuls, Corsham. Mendip started the game with fluid movement and great inter-link play.

With great hockey came a great goal - a defensive combo of Grace Harding, Heyley Bullock and Katie Browning found Ella Sage. Ella fired a pass across the D to find Brenda Scott who powered her shot into the net.

Corsham came back into the game with a flurry but were denied many chances by the excellent interceptions of debutant left back Ella Constable. Eventually Corsham evened the score with a well worked corner. At the break with a positive team talk, Mendip continued to work hard with Melissa Forster battling in midfield and Olivia Collins playing great balls into the D. A few chances came their way, but Corsham came away the victors with a rebound tap in at the near post making it 2-1.

An outstanding performance from the back five despite the result, showing in the match votes with Leanne Chapman taking Player of the Match for her heroic saves, most notably a stick save from the ground and Grace Harding runner up with an impressive centre back performance.

Meanwhile, the Ladies 2’s lost against the rivals over the hills in Mid Somerset. 4-0 the score with Letty Smith Player of the Match.

Away from home, the Men’s 2’s drew 3-3 in an entertaining end-to-end game against Bristol Firebrands. Goals from Toby Green, James England and Ben Elkington with Jacob Stocker taking Player of the Match.
