Mendip Ladies 2nds 3 Frome Ladies 2nds 1

Mendip Ladies Seconds faced local derby team, Frome – as well as the strong winds. After a shaky start from both teams, the game was evenly matched almost throughout the whole of the first half. Just minutes into the second half, Frome were awarded two consecutive short corners, one of which they managed to score with a flick over the goalie from the right post.

Mendip came out fierce and fiery in response, and played much better hockey. The fast passes alongside a few well executed skills soon paid off, as their first goal was passed across the line by top goal scorer for the team, Connie Glover. Mendip won a short corner which was struck hard by Sally Stanford at top D, but rebounded off the keeper and then passed out to Ella Constable on the left, who swept the ball, hitting the backboard, to earn the second goal for her team, making it 2–1. Both teams were feeling the pressure, however, Mendip continued to push. With some superb up-field positioning, a great pass came into the D from Meg Carey, once again reaching the stick of Glover, who aced her deflection past the keeper.

A close, very important match ended 3–1 to Mendip. The side face Weymouth this Saturday. MOM went to Ella Constable for her goal and efforts in midfield.
