Midsomer Norton Seconds hosted high-flying Keynsham Seconds in what was their first home game of the season. Conditions at Norton Down were perfect for a game of fast flowing, running rugby.

Norton, with yet again a much-changed side to the one which played the week before, got off to a fantastic start with Richard Slater going long from kick-off. A solid chase from the Norton pack forced Keynsham to kick away possession. Early carries from the like of Ollie Newton and Ed Cook helped Norton gain yards, but Keynsham defended well and soon pinned Norton in their own 22.

Keynsham's dominance in the set piece showed early, as they crossed the line off the back of a successful maul from a line-out. However, Norton weren't to let their heads drop and it wasn't long before they were again in Keynsham territory following a good touch finder from Looie Dyer at flyhalf. After some scrappy play, Sam Knight offloaded brilliantly out of the tackle to send Rob Crouch over in the corner on his return to the game following nearly a year off. These would prove to be the only points Norton would score, as Keynsham began to get a grip on the game, scoring a series of tries before the whistle blew for half-time.

The second half saw Keynsham play good rugby and cross the whitewash several times. Norton, however, showed real grit in defence, wingers, Jack Johnson and Kemar, tackling well out wide, whilst Kev Herbert and Nath Fear continued to work tirelessly around the breakdown. Norton can take heart from this game, despite the one-sided scoreline, as they showed a great deal more in defence than they had in recent weeks.
